Bluetooth Troubleshooting Guide (All Multimedia Series)

Modified on Tue, 19 May at 4:06 PM

Bluetooth-related complaints can be frustrating, but many issues can be resolved through structured troubleshooting. It’s important to remember that several variables contribute to Bluetooth performance, including the mobile phone, the vehicle’s multimedia unit and the user.

Common Causes of Bluetooth Issues

  • Phone Software Updates:
A large number of Bluetooth complaints arise following phone software updates. These updates can affect Bluetooth functionality and compatibility.

  • Multiple Connected Devices:
Devices such as hearing aids, smartwatches, wireless earbuds, and fitness trackers can interfere with Bluetooth connections. Identifying and managing these devices is an important part of troubleshooting.

  • Mobile Signal Reception:
Bluetooth does not improve mobile phone reception. If a phone has poor signal from the service provider, call quality and audio streaming may be affected. This is a signal issue—not a Bluetooth fault—and may be more noticeable in areas with weak coverage.

Diagnostic Approach

To properly assess a Bluetooth complaint:

  1. Attempt to reproduce the issue using the customer’s phone.

  2. If the fault is visible, test with a different phone.

    • If the issue persists across multiple devices, the vehicle's multimedia unit may be at fault.

    • If the issue is isolated to one phone and cannot be replicated with others, the problem is likely with the customer’s phone.

  3. Based on the results, determine whether a software update or a reset (phone or multimedia unit) is likely to resolve the issue.

Bluetooth Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Delete all Bluetooth pairings from the vehicle's multimedia unit.

  2. Perform a reset of the multimedia unit
(Use the reset button, perform a factory reset via settings, or conduct a hard reset as applicable).

  3. Delete all Bluetooth pairings from the customer’s phone and restart the phone.

  4. Check for available software updates for both the phone and the vehicle’s multimedia unit. Install any updates found.

  5. Re-pair the phone to the multimedia unit and test functionality.

If the phone cannot be paired or issues persist, further technical advice or service may be required. Please raise a ticket and clearly note what problems the customer is experiencing, their phone and its software version (screenshot recommended). Please provide photos or videos showing issue if possible.
