Android Auto is a fantastic feature that allows you to seamlessly integrate your Android phone with your vehicle's multimedia system. However, like any technology, it can sometimes encounter issues. If you're experiencing problems with Android Auto, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check your connections (for wired Android Auto): Ensure that your Android phone is properly connected to your vehicle's media USB port and that the cable being used is in good condition. It is recommended to use a genuine or approved cable to avoid connection issues. Also, make sure that the USB port and phone socket are clean and free of debris, as this can also cause connection problems (see the bottom of this article for how to clean). For Wireless connections please read the guide for this:
2. Update your software: Make sure that both your Android phone and vehicle multimedia system are running the latest software updates. Compatibility issues can sometimes arise if one or both devices are not up to date.
3. Restart your devices: Try restarting both your Android phone and vehicle multimedia system. This simple step can often resolve minor glitches that may be affecting Android Auto.
4. Check for restrictions: If Android Auto is not working, check your phone's settings to ensure that it is not restricted. Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Advanced > Special App Access > Android Auto and make sure that it is enabled.
If the issue persists, you can try the following steps:
A. Reset your vehicle multimedia system:
If all else fails, try resetting your vehicle multimedia system. This can sometimes resolve more complex issues that may be affecting CarPlay. We suggest trying the hard reset and if issue still persists to do a factory reset.
See Page 61 From User Manual as below:
B. Delete the device from your Android Auto list on your phone:
Please note the following is for a Galaxy S21 but approach will be similar across Android variations, if unsure please follow the manufacturers procedure for your specific device as there are multiple Android OS in the market.
Go to Settings > Connections > Select Android Auto from Looking for something else > Previously connected vehicles > Select vehicle to disconnect from > Forget > This vehicle will no longer be visible.
It is then recommended to restart the phone and then reconnect to radio to re-establish fresh connection.

Alternatively, you can go to Settings > Connected devices > Scroll down to Android Auto > Follow from Step 4 Above.
**Cleaning the USB C Connector on Your Android Device**
If you are experiencing connectivity issues with your Android device when connecting to other devices or accessories via USB C, it may be due to a dirty or obstructed USB C port. Follow these steps to clean the USB C connector on your Android device:
1. Power off your Android device: Before cleaning the USB C port, ensure that your device is powered off to prevent any potential damage.
2. Use a flashlight: Use a flashlight to carefully examine the USB C port for any lint, dust, or debris that may be hindering the connection.
3. Use a soft brush or toothpick: Gently brush the inside of the USB C port with a soft brush (e.g. paint brush) or use a toothpick (may need to be shaved down) to carefully remove any visible debris. Take care not to damage the port or push any debris further inside.
4. Use compressed air: If you have canned compressed air available, you can use it to blow out any stubborn debris from the USB C port. Hold the canister upright and use short bursts of air to avoid causing damage. (Note: Avoid using a compressor as it may apply excessive air pressure and cause damage).
5. Reconnect your Android device: Once you have cleaned the USB C port, reconnect your device to the desired accessory or device and check if the connection is working properly.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your Android device's USB C connector is clean and free from any obstructions, allowing for a reliable and stable connection with other devices and accessories.
(Disclaimer: If you are not confident to do this then take your phone to a mobile repair shop as they will have suitable tools to do this).
